At The F.I.N.D. Design, we take pride in knowing that every person on our team truly believes in our mission, vision, and values. We are not just our sister's keeper, we are our sisters!
I am Kara James Johnson, I'm originally from Pontiac, MI. I have the privilege of serving as the Executive Director of The F.I.N.D. Design.
I am F.L.Y. because I have the heart to be the voice for many that do not have a voice...even my younger self. I thrive off of life itself! I am F.L.Y because I have learned the art of embracing all of me by permitting myself to "be" just as I am...
What I enjoy most about working at T.F.D. is the culture of the organization.
Everyone goes HARD for the mission. We are our sisters, and you will see that understanding throughout the organization, starting with each other! We are a family!
I have many "heroes"...But my mom is my 1st. She is the epitome of love and support. It wasn't always an easy relationship, especially doing those teen years, but we have grown to be best friends, and I know if no one else has me, she has me!
A quote that I live by is:
Maya Angelou's poem "Our Grandmothers," where she says, "I come as one, but I stand as 10,000."
Ask me about how you can invest in black women and other women of color, why the T.F.D. exists, what services we provide, and how you can join us in the mission!
Raised by a single mother on Detroit’s west side, Sharese learned that “life” will not always show you mercy. Being a child in a domestic violence situation and losing family members to tragedies, Sharese learned early that you can’t let “life” define or destroy you. Sharese’s mom instilled in her that if you keep God first in all that you do, “life” will never win. Despite the challenges that life brought her way, Sharese excelled in school, graduated with honors and went on to attend Tennessee State University where she continues her education. Sharese realized once she made it through those early years of “life” that there was an obligation to give back to young girls and help them make it as well. Sharese co-founded “The F.I.N.D (Families In Need of Direction) Design” in 2013 to help those girls and young women to overcome their circumstances and redefine their lives. Sharese's life model is "Never let your pain stop your Purpose!" As Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of The F.I.N.D Design®, Sharese is also accountable for development and fundraising, board relations, collaborative efforts and marketing, and overall vital direction and leadership.
Hi My Name is Edwina Freeman, I'm originally from Detroit, MI.
One of the things that make me F.L.Y. is that I celebrate and love being a black woman.
I have done the work and learned to love myself flaws and all. This healing journey has equipped me to love others from a place of wholeness. I am a servant at heart. At The FI.N.D. Design I get to truly educate, empower, and elevate black girls all the while helping them find their voice. An added bonus is my mentees keep me “up-to-date”.
I genuinely love our mission and advocating for black women and girls is part of my life's work. Another more personal reason I enjoy working at F.I.N.D. is that I don't have to shrink who I am. I get to show up every day and bring all of who I am to the table. That type of work environment allows me to thrive professionally and personally.
One of my heroes is Coretta Scott King, her ability to move beyond her pain and grief, to advance the movement to end injustice was powerful. She was a change-agent and created her own legacy, generations to come will be influenced and empowered by her initiatives. A quote that I live by is “It always seems impossible until it's done” -Madiba

A small-town girl from Franklin, Kentucky, Camille grew up wanting to help people at an early age and she was always the one people sought advice from in middle and high school. This is part of what inspired her to pursue a degree in Social Work upon graduating from high school. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at The University of Kentucky. As she completed her degree she started working with youth in the Nashville community. Camille is also a Parent Life Director for Youth for Christmas. Through her work in different roles in the community, she realized the need for mentorship and positive role models so she sought out The F.I.N.D Design to help young people know their worth and overcome life's challenges.
I am an adventurer of this world! I live to help others realize that life is nothing but a vapor so we must live to our fullest potential while we are. I have had the opportunity to see the impact of how important for black girls to have other women of color speak into their lives. I have the privilege to serve with F.I.N.D. The most amazing empowering organization. So, what makes me FLY? What makes me fly is that I get to wonderfully be my own individual self. At the F.I.N.D I am surrounded with constant encouragement and uplifting. But, I wouldn't be here without some of my heroes. My grandmother is one mine. She molded me into a beautiful black woman. Full of dignity and respect. I wouldn't be who I am without her today.
I get to serve as the Youth Development Specialist at The F.I.N.D Design. I get to walk hand and hand with our youth getting to empower, educate, and elevate through our programming.
Do you REALLY want to know what makes me F.L.Y? Because I’m ME! And that is something that no one else could ever be, because I was created for a purpose. MY purpose. My purpose is to be of service to others. That is what I enjoy most about working at The F.I.N.D Design. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve our black & brown girls, and their families. There is so much love & attention that needs to be spread around changing the narrative about black & brown girls, and I have the pleasure of being a part of an organization that does just that. It brings me so much joy knowing that we have a community that is holding us accountable for changing that narrative. My hero is my grandmother. She is the definition of a “STRONG BLACK WOMAN”. She is gracious, beautiful, resilient, and my personal prayer warrior. She has defeated every single battle given to her, and for that, I am forever humbled. One of my favorite quotes is “They say if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready”. The F.I.N.D Design stays ready!!!
I am the Program Support Coordinator for T.F.D. My duty is to provide the office and administrative staff with support in all areas within the organization. I am involved mainly behind the scenes, but as our organization grows, I look forward to becoming hands on as well.
