JUVENILES ALIGNED AND MOTIVATED

Our Juvenile Anger Management program, or J.A.M. Sessions, is a cognitive and behavioral skills development program designed to provide youth, that are currently in the juvenile court system, with the skills they need to change the specific behaviors that lead to their court interaction. The focus will be on those who were arrested due to behaviors such as vandalism, assault/battery, domestic assault, fighting, disturbing the peace and harassment. Juveniles that attend these group sessions will learn how to become better prepared to make improved decisions, manage their anger and develop interpersonal/social skills.

J.A.M. Elements

7-WEEK J.A.M. SESSION

The participants initially attend 7-weeks of group sessions which promote both verbal and non-verbal methods of dealing with anger, anxiety, grief and disappointment. As each participant partakes in these group activities and discussions, they will have the opportunity to learn from the trained group staff, mentors and other participants, giving them a chance to reflect on their individual thoughts and actions.

Eventually, the participants will recognize how their actions are not only having a negative effect on their lives and potentially their future but the lives of the individuals closest to them. Once graduated, each participant will be offered an accountability partner (AP) that will be committed to 1:1 mentoring for, at least, 6-months. These AP's are there to assist with holding their mentee accountable, reinforcing the tools that were learned during J.A.M. Sessions and being an overall support system that the mentee can depend on.

MONTHLY DIVERSIONARY WORKSHOPS

The participants are referred by court representatives to attend a J.A.M. Workshop in order to fulfill court requirements. The sessions will be held once a month, generally at Davidson County Juvenile Court. Workshops will cover and provide an array of life management skills for anger management, conflict resolution and positive decision making. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are encouraged to continue receiving assistance through 1:1 mentoring.
