Research shows that a decreased presence in school puts students at a high risk of failing academically, experiencing psychosocial difficulties, entering the juvenile justice system, falling victim to drug and alcohol abuse and leads to the underdevelopment of key social skills.
The F.L.Y. or Forever Love Yourself, weekly school-based and after school program identifies young ladies who are going through a rough transition into adulthood and offers a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can disrupt their lives. Our girls receive a host of different services that focus on reducing violence by laying a foundation of social-emotional development, implementation of life skills and community outreach. Our goal being an increase in-school presence and, ultimately, an enhanced overall quality of life.
We create an environment where participants can share their experiences, learn from one another and encourage each other. Each participant commits to learning the value of responsibility and giving back to their community, and we take the time to celebrate their achievements with a graduation event at the end of the year. We actively include families in our program and assist them in becoming more involved because we understand that it truly takes a village to keep a child on the road to success.
